Social Action Agenda

Cascade Mentoring

Constellation mentoring initiatives involves a network of supportive members who provide access to social and cultural capital, rather than the traditional one-on-one mentoring model.  Constellation mentoring is the foundation for the Gamma Gamma Boulé Mentoring Initiative partnership involving the University of Texas at Austin and Huston Tillotson University.

Gamma Gamma Boulé Archons meet monthly with young men from the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) at the University of Texas at Austin, the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars group at Huston Tillotson and St Edwards University.  These mentoring events feature moderated panel discussions and networking sessions between the highly successful and experienced professionals of the fraternity and the male college students.

Business Case Statement

The Archons of Gamma Gamma Boulé have invested in their Social Action agenda for the past 30 years and decided in 2012 that it needed a vehicle to drive additional support for Central Texas minority students.  Our Founders hammered out a mission in conjunction with our Social Action initiative which is totally supported by our members.  The Gamma Gamma Boulé Foundation was established in December 2012, as a 501 C3 entity to allow outside entities to participate in our mission.

The Fraternity has awarded scholarships since 1995 with awards being made to 74 students with a value of $86,000.

The goal of the Foundation is to build upon the work of the Fraternity for the last 20+ years in the providing of scholarships and mentoring programs.  Since the Fraternity strongly believes in our mission to enhance, improve and develop programs which accentuate higher education for minority students in Central Texas, we believe that establishing strategic alliances with those who share our vision and passion is critical to our future success.

Jr. Golf Program

Cascade mentoring connects a senior mentor with a mentee who also mentors a junior person.  This tiered model allows for a cascading effect of best practices down from the lead organization, enabling mentees to become mentors themselves.  CIS, the premier dropout prevention program in the country, has seen much success with the cascade mentoring model and therefore is an ideal partner for this initiative.

Based on the model, the Gamma Gamma Boulé Archons mentor young men from SAAB at the University of Texasat Austin, the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars at Huston Tillotson and St. Edwards University and those students in turn serve as mentors to CIS students from area high schools.

The Gamma Gamma Boulé Jr. Golf Initiative is a partnership with the PGA of America and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity to assist in exposing more minorities to the game of golf.  Austin, Texas is one of the 10 areas around the country participating in this program.  Our goal is to expose young people to the game of golf and all of the benefits it offers.  We have worked with more that 50 participants since inception of this program in 2016.
